The Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Company was in need of a water supply to assist their first due area. Their primary coverage area is without hydrants. Financing a hydrant system was not an option for the local municipality, so Earth Wise Consulting rolled up its sleeves and developed an innovative solution. A 10,000 gallon cistern was installed and all parking lot and roof runoff was piped to the cistern. The cistern was then fitted with a dry hydrant that allows the fire department to pump directly from the cistern. They also wanted a helo pad, so we developed a cul de sac. Additional parking and the cul de sac are constructed of permeable pavement, which reduces stormwater runoff and reduces winter maintenance costs.
